Pull (requisition) ordering system
An ordering system in which the lower level decides how much to order from the higher level, e.g., a clinic decides how much of product A to order from the district. This is often called a requisition system.
An example of a pull system is retail sales where the customer decides how much to order.
See push system as the opposing term.
Neither a pull system nor a push system is superior, rather, it describes who makes the decision.
A pull system is useful when products are in full supply and not useful when products are rationed, since the lower level may not in general receive the quantity they order.
